F600 GOING DOWN THE DRAIN ?

Post by reddevilsix »

I have noticed a lot of talk on the FB F600 group about the demise of the F500/F600 class because the SCCA has said that the class will NOT be included in next years Runoffs. Here is my thoughts on that:

IT’S NOT ALL ABOUT WINNING OR GOING TO THE RUNOFFS.

We all need to relax a bit. Racing should be FUN. It should not be all about the Runoffs or who is the fastest. Yes, having qualified for the Runoffs is a badge, but it’s not the end all.

And yes, the fact that the SCCA kingdom has little or no respect for the F600 class really hurts, and that the F600’s will not be eligible to run in the 2025 Runoffs sucks.

But as we all know, there can be only ONE first place and someone has to finish in second place and someone has to be last. For some racers, just finishing a race is a milestone. Everyone will remember that race. And you will also remember your first, first place win.

For me, just being on the racetrack and going as fast as I can, was the ultimate goal. I can still remember my driving instructor at my first driving school telling me that it’s OK to go fast. Unlike all the years of driving on public roads, being told it’s OK to go fast was so rewarding.

No one should start racing a F600 car with hopes of going into a top formula class and get paid to do it. The F600 cars are for fun. Some people just love to tinker with cars, others just want to get in and drive.

If you are looking for a “arrive and drive” car, F600 is NOT it. If you are in the “arrive and drive” group, you should think about moving on to some other class. Don’t come here and bitch about how the cars are not “standard”.

Racing is fun. Racing wheel to wheel is fun. Just arriving at the track and finishing the weekend without damaging your car is fun.
