OK boys and girls, here it is, what the two cycle racers have been waiting for, well wait no more.

RACING THE F500.COM TWO CYCLE CHALLENGE

From the 1985 GCR:
Formula 440 is a Restricted class. Therefore, any allowable modifications, changes, or additions are as stated herein. There are no exceptions. IF IN DOUBT, DON'T. Homologation is required for all cars registered after January 1, 1983.

10. FORMULA 440 RULES
10.1 Definition
A class for single seat, open wheel, rigid suspension race cars using snowmobile derived engines and drive components. Specifications are restrictive in nature in order to emphasize driver ability rather than design.

The original idea of the F440 class was to incorporate existing snowmobile engines and drive-train into a low-cost entry class of open wheel racing. At the time, there was a desire to create a car with minimal suspension components and low cost racing tires. That goal was achieved with the introduction of the F440 class of open wheel race car.

As time passed, the snowmobile engines grew in performance and displacement, but they still adhered to the original concept of low cost operation and maintenance of the engines and drive-train. With the introduction of the 500cc snowmobile engines into the class, the F500 class was created.

From the 2012 GCR:
FORMULA 500 PREPARATION RULES
E.1. Definition
A class for single seat, open wheel, rigid suspension race cars using snowmobile derived engines and drive components. Specifications are restrictive in nature in order to emphasize driver ability rather than design.

Formula 500 is a Restricted class. Therefore, any allowable modifications, changes, or additions are as stated herein. There are no exceptions. IF IN DOUBT, DON'T. Homologation is required for all cars registered after January 1, 1983.

As the owner and maintainer of the website, racingthef500.com, I believe that the F500 class has moved far away from its original goal, that of a low-cost, easy to maintain, open wheel race car with the introduction of the motorcycle powered cars using manual shift transmissions. That is a far stretch of the original concept and is something that I cannot support.

With that in mind, I am creating an award system to encourage the use of 2 cycle engines in the F500 racing class. Here is my challenge.

Drivers may run any of the SCCA majors, or super tours or regional road races. The race season will be considered over at the beginning of the Runoffs.

Financial awards will be given as follows:
$100 the top finisher
$75 for 2nd
$50 for third place

Only 2 cycle powered cars are eligible for the awards. You don't have to finish in the top 3 places of the race, just the top three of the 2 cycle powered road race cars. If the race weekend is a double or 2 race weekend, only your best finish will be considered.

The requirements for an award are:
- The car must be powered by a 2 cycle SCCA legal engine. Driver/owner must send or post photo of car showing the engine.
- The money will go to the driver.
- The car must have the F500 banner on each side of the car. Driver/owner must send or post a photo of the car showing the banner.
- The driver must be a member of my F500 site before the race weekend.
- Banners will be offered to drivers/owners at reduced cost.
- The driver must post the race results on my site or e-mail the race results to me.
- The driver/car must be shown as having completed the race.
- A check of the appropriate amount will be made out to the driver and mailed to his address within a month of the race
finish via the USPS.

The banners are on order, they should be available at the beginning of the new year. The banners are more like a bumper sticker and have an adhesive backing. The banner size is: Rectangle - 3" x 11"
Here is what it looks like:

Banners can be purchased at $2 each or $4 for two plus shipping. Please contact me on the site, my email address, or via a PM to order the banners.

Good luck everyone
